The adventures of May.

I just uploaded pictures to my computer and realized that I led an un-photographable life between the months of February and May. I have no pictures to account for that period of time in my life. Well, the weekend of May 16-17 changed that.

First, we celebrated Cambree's birthday on the 16th. We went rollerskating and played on inflatable toys, i.e. slides. The party was a success. I am happy to say that Cambree told me she never really enjoyed her birthday until she met me.

Our friend Adam brought a balloon animal kit he picked up at the dollar store. I recommend bringing one to every party, it was a great icebreaker. We all tried our hand at balloon creations. Take my word for it, it is harder then it seems. The first picture is of the balloon mouse I made for Cambree. Unfortunately it ended up with a very long tail.

Everyone enjoyed the princess and frog cake purchased at the local Costco,

but after only finishing half of the cake our friends Evan(left) and Jake(right) decided to see if they could tempt hungry children passing by on the track;

Unfortunately we found no takers.

The next day we decided to head roughly two and half hours (one way) northwest to discover the Spiral Jetty.

Following Lauren's example, I have provided some links you can check out.

This is the wilderness we had to traverse to get to the jetty.

Although my car may look cool out here, it definitely wasn't made for that sort of thing. We unknowingly poked a hole in one of the tires, but didn't realize it till Cambree drove it the next day and got a flat. It was the same tire that I had to fix about a month ago.

The jetty is west of the golden spike historic sight. The actually touristy stuff is way over priced, but there were some cool things about it. There is one pull off were you can see where they had to fill in the land to make it possible for the tracks to be laid-that part was really cool. Apparently someone that stopped there did not feel the same. The writing on the sign is supposed to be a quote from Joseph Smith. For the innocence of the viewer, I did some editing when we took the picture.

(in case you can't read it says "Polygamy kicks a**- I hope I didn't offend anyone by including this, but I thought it was funny that someone would even think to write it.)

Ok, here comes the picture gallery from the spiral jetty. The white stuff you see is not snow but salt deposits. Any damage to the salt formations was done by previous visitors to the jetty.

A lot of the rocks had salt deposits in the "pores" of the rocks.

Don't worry, I didn't really lick it.

Those are ridges of salt under the water. In one of the links it talks about how the spiral is effected by drought and abundance of water. I think that these ridges have been created over the years by the water lapping at the shore and as water levels changes different ridges were created.

You can't really tell in this picture, but this little bridge was open to the other side. It reminded me of the arches down south, but this one is a miniature salt one.

More salt!

I hope you all find those pictures as interesting as I did, otherwise you are probably bored out of your mind. I have a few more and then this post will be complete.

On the way home we saw signs for a store called Smith and Edwards. Cambree recalled some fond memories of going there with her grandma when she was a kid. We decided to be spontaneous and stop. It is a crazy store! They have everything there, it is like a hardware/army surplus/clothing/camping/food/well everything store. Here goes the photographic tour.

I think you just tell from the sign what a cool store it is.

We sat and enjoyed a massage from a massage chair.

This is the army surplus section.

I think it is pretty hard to find one piece long johns these days, but of course smith and edward had them.

Their cow boy hat selection must be unmatched. We had to try some one. We were trying to take our own picture, but then this girl came up and offered. You see I am pretty sure it is normal to take pictures in this store. After that picture we stumbled upon the "deli" and enjoyed an ice cream cone.

Cambree thinks she is pretty tough. This is the tank that the sign for the store is built on. Quality!

I am sure you want to know what purchases we made a smith and edwards. Here is the list

  • A tarp for camping
  • A replacement bulb for my hermit crab
  • Nutella (in a glass jar and not a lick of english on the label)
  • Rock candy

Well, this is the official end of my first "real" post. I think I spent way to much time on it. Hopefully I have the hang of it and it won't take as long next time.

Oh and your car looks like it should be on one of those commercials with macho music and a man with a gravelly voice announcing, "no car goes where our car can, with 0% financing..."

And I love the spiral jetty photos. I want to go there someday.
